The Movie Theatre Association of Canada (MTAC) in collaboration with the U.S-based Cinema Foundation, announces the second annual National Cinema Day on August 27, 2023. The event aims to celebrate the unparalleled joy of watching movies on the “Big Screen.”

Over 3,000 participating venues, covering more than 30,000 screens across North America, will be offering this discounted rate.

Notably in Canada, cinema chains like Cineplex, Cinémas Ciné Entreprise, Imagine Cinemas, Landmark Cinemas, and Magic Lantern Theatres, along with various local independent theaters, are participating.

“Following a record-breaking summer for movie-going, National Cinema Day is the perfect way to close out the season. Theatres nationwide are excited to join forces to welcome Canadians into our theatres to experience a day of fun at the movies with their families and friends,” said Nuria Bronfman, Executive Director, MTAC in a news release. “We are thrilled to celebrate alongside our US colleagues in thanking movie-lovers across the country for their ongoing support of the exhibition industry by inviting them to enjoy the big screen experience.”

The MTAC, established in 1980, champions the interests of exhibitors across Canada, representing over 3,000 movie screens. They focus on promoting Canadian exhibitors, both within the country and on an international stage, ensuring the tradition of movie-going remains as cherished as ever. Their role extends to liaising with governing bodies and offering insights into the constantly evolving cinematic landscape.
