NCC Opening Ottawa’s Queen Elizabeth Driveway For Cyclists and Pedestrians From April 18

imageNational Capital Region Commission is closing a section of Queen Elizabeth Driveway to motor vehicle traffic, so that residents who live in the dense surrounding areas can practice physical distancing. The pilot project is implemented in consultation with and coordination with Ottawa Public Health, as well as City of Ottawa traffic and emergency management staff.

 

Queen Elizabeth Driveway between Laurier Avenue and Fifth Avenue will be open for pedestrians and cyclists daily from 8am-8pm, from April 18 to 26, 2020. During the closure access for emergency vehicles will be maintained. Motorists can cross Queen Elizabeth Driveway at Pretoria Bridge and enter Pretoria Avenue will be maintained.

NCC is asking only residents who live nearby to use the driveway and that residents public should not drive there as a destination and follow share the path guidelines:

  • Speed limit of 20 km/h
  • Keep to the right & pass on the left
  • Ring bell or call out when passing

The decision of whether to continue the pilot project will be made depending on compliance with the closures and physical distancing directives, among others.
