The recalled product is no name Beef Burgers, sold in a 1.36-kilogram package. The affected burgers carry the UPC 0 60383 37333 7 and are marked BEST BEFORE 2026 MA 05, with the production code B13 BMP EST 112.
The product is being removed from stores as a precaution after testing conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency identified the potential presence of the bacteria.
Consumers are being advised to check their freezers for the recalled burgers. The agency says the product should not be eaten, served, used, sold, or distributed. Anyone who has the affected burgers should either throw them out or return them to the place of purchase. People who believe they became sick after consuming the product are advised to contact a healthcare provider.
Health officials note that E. coli O157:H7 contamination is not always obvious. Food carrying the bacteria may appear and smell normal. Symptoms of illness can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that may range from watery to bloody. In more serious cases, infections can lead to seizures, strokes, the need for blood transfusions or kidney dialysis, permanent kidney damage, or death.
The CFIA says there have been no reported illnesses linked to this product so far. A food safety investigation is ongoing, and additional recalls could follow if other affected products are identified. The agency is also working to confirm that retailers and distributors are removing the recalled beef burgers from the marketplace.
