Bloom Tulip Festival

After hosting the Abbotsford Tulip Festival for four years, Bloom is now blooming in Spallumcheen with a sunflower festival in the summer and a stunning tulip festival in the spring.

Behind the beautiful blooms is Alexis Szarek, a third-generation flower grower who wants to share her family’s love of farming and inspire appreciation for locally grown flowers.

If you’re wondering about the tulip varieties you’ll see at the festival, there are over 20 different varieties to feast your senses.

You can find pink tulips such as Light Pink Prince, Barcelona, Carola, and Royal Ten. If you prefer red, there are Crystal Beauty, Miranda, Red Saigon, and Strong Fire. For orange, check out Icoon and Ogene.

If yellow is your favourite colour, don’t miss Sunny Prince, Crystal Star, and Yellow Pomponette. Purple tulips include Purple Prince, Candy Prince, Rousillion, and World Bowl, while White Prince is the lone white tulip. And for something a little different, you can also see Gudosnik Double, Happy Generation, Crossfire, and Davenport, which are bi-coloured.

The festival also offers visitors the opportunity to pick and purchase tulips, take photos in the fields, and enjoy food trucks, lawn games, and a picnic area.

If you’re planning on attending the festival, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Pre-cut bunches are available for purchase, with five stem bunches selling for $12 each. You can buy three bunches for $30 and save $6.

If you’d like to pick your tulips, you can purchase a U-pick pail that includes a cream pail and 8-10 stems for $30. Additional stems can be purchased separately.

Children aged 5-15 can get in for $12 online, while adults (16-64) pay $18 online. Seniors (65+) can purchase tickets for $15 online.

Children get in for free on Fridays, and adult tickets are discounted on Thursdays for Locals Nights.

For those looking to take advantage of the beautiful light during magic hour and a less busy field, there’s the Magic Hour ticket. This ticket costs $40 online and grants you admission between 5:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m., before the field opens to the public at 9:00 a.m.

Photographers are welcome to take pictures in the field, but each model or guest must hold an individual admission ticket. Multi-day tickets are available for photographers who plan on visiting the field multiple times throughout the festival.

So, plan a trip to North Okanagan between May 4th and 27th, head over to 5050 Knob Hill Rd, Spallumcheen, and get ready to be wowed by the stunning tulip fields at Bloom’s Tulip Festival.
