Nova Scotia Announces Celebrations to Mark King Charles III’s Coronation

The coronation of King Charles III alongside Queen Camilla is set to take place on Saturday, May 6, in London, England, and Nova Scotia will mark the historic event with a garden party, exhibition and flag-raising ceremony.

To celebrate the coronation, a series of public events are scheduled in Halifax at Government House (1451 Barrington St.) and Province House (1726 Hollis St.) throughout May and June.

“The coronation of Charles III, King of Canada, provides Nova Scotians with an opportunity to reflect on our constitutional monarchy’s legacy of service and stability,” said Lt.-Gov. LeBlanc in a news release. “This historic event is also a chance to celebrate our new sovereign and his passion for the environment, youth initiatives, volunteer and military service, and finding new ways to serve our communities, province and Canada.”

Notable public events include the opening of the King Charles III exhibit at Province House on May 2, a screening of the film “Canadians at the Coronation” at Government House on May 2, and a live viewing of the coronation ceremony on May 6. Additional events encompass a flag-raising ceremony on May 6, the unveiling of the King’s portrait on May 31, and a coronation garden party on June 22.

The public is invited to attend these festivities free of charge, though indoor events at Government House have limited capacity. To secure a spot, attendees can enter a lottery online, by email at LGOffice@novascotia.ca or by phone at 902-424-7001.

In addition to the public events, two invitation-only occasions will be held: a provincial state dinner at the Canadian Forces Base Halifax on May 5 and a citizenship swearing-in ceremony at Province House on May 23.

The federal government will mark the coronation with a ceremony in Ottawa on May 6. Activities will also be organized at Rideau Hall, Ottawa, on May 6 and 7.
