Canada’s Capital Region will get a new holiday attraction, one that aims to reshape the city’s holiday season and draw families from across the region into a shared festive space.
The city’s first Gatineau Christmas Village is set to debut in December 2026, transforming the outdoor grounds surrounding the Canadian Museum of History into a large-scale seasonal attraction.
The organizers describe it as an inclusive, family-oriented event, featuring activities designed to appeal to visitors of all ages.
At the centre of the site will stand a 92-foot illuminated Christmas tree, largely crafted in Gatineau. The plans also include an outdoor cinema, a miniature train, a cookie factory, a hot chocolate station and appearances from Santa Claus. Admission for children will be free, with adults paying a modest fee.
The project anticipates welcoming more than 40,000 visitors in its first year. To make it possible, partners have committed over $2 million in infrastructure. Funding contributors include the Quebec Ministry of Tourism, offering $650,000 through the Winter Tourism Support Measure, and Canada Economic Development, which is providing $250,000.
CINQDIXQUINZE is leading the initiative alongside Orkestra, with the Canadian Museum of History serving as the main partner and host. Co-founder Alexandre Van Dieren said the goal is to create a gathering place that reflects regional talent and fosters community pride.
