Hoverlink Ontario Inc. (Hoverlink) is planning to bring a rapid transit route between Toronto and the Niagara Region in the summer of 2023.
As per the news release, the large-scale hovercraft service between St. Catharines and Ontario Place in Toronto across Lake Ontario in only 30 minutes is in the final approval stages to launch service.
Hovercraft service between Toronto and St. Catharines will be eco-friendly and weatherproof and the company says it will be the first of its kind in North America.

Hoverlink says approvals in place to land its high-speed hovercrafts which can travel across land, ice and water, in virtually all-weather conditions and temperatures at Ontario Place in Toronto and Port Weller in St. Catharines with service across Lake Ontario in 30 minutes, 365 days a year, with up to 48 lake crossings per day. Each craft can ferry up to 180 passengers in its climate-controlled cabin.
Hoverlink says the watercraft features extremely low-emission Tier 3 engines and “hover” on a cushion of air above the water and “leave virtually no wake or wash, and unlike traditional boats and ferries, they cause no harm to shorelines and protection efforts along Lake Ontario.”
Currently, the travel between St Catharines and Toronto takes more than 70 minutes by car on a low traffic day and up to three hours by GO train service.
