Rogers Stadium’s First Season Brings Over $500 Million Boost to Toronto

In its first full season, Rogers Stadium has left a measurable mark on Toronto’s economy, says Live Nation, with new data pointing to the growing influence of large-scale live music events.

The venue, which opened in June 2025 at the former Downsview Airport Lands, hosted 14 concerts and drew roughly 700,000 fans. A study by Nordicity found that those events generated more than $500 million in economic activity, including $388 million in GDP and $115 million in federal and provincial tax revenue.

Beyond ticket sales, the ripple effects were felt across the city. The stadium supported the equivalent of over 3,000 full-time jobs across industries like hospitality, transportation, and production. Labour income tied to the venue reached $218 million, reflecting how live events extend far beyond the stage.

Local businesses also saw a noticeable lift. Some neighbourhood spots in North York reported revenue increases of up to 20 percent on concert days, as visitors filled nearby restaurants and cafes.

Officials say the results highlight how major entertainment venues are shaping Toronto’s economy. Stan Cho, Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, pointed to live music as a driver of jobs and tourism. Mayor Olivia Chow echoed that sentiment, noting the venue’s role in strengthening the city’s position as a global destination for large-scale events.

Live Nation Canada, which operates the venue, says the impact goes beyond one site. Across the Greater Toronto Area, its events generated $577 million in economic activity last summer, supported roughly 5,000 full-time jobs, and produced $172 million in tax revenue.

Rogers Stadium is set to reopen on May 23 for the 2026 season, beginning with five sold-out Bruno Mars shows, with more concerts planned throughout the summer.
