Durham Region Health Department, in collaboration with local municipal recreation centres and the Oshawa Mary Street YMCA, has reintroduced the Grade 5 Action Pass for the 2023-2024 academic year. This initiative aims to foster physical activity and inculcate lifelong healthy habits in children.
The pass, valid from September 2023 to August 2024, permits Grade 5 students in Durham Region unlimited access to free public swimming, skating, and drop-in programs at selected recreation centres throughout the region.
As the school year commences, Grade 5 students will receive an information card outlining the process to acquire the Action Pass.
To acquire the Action Pass, students must present an information card, provided by their school, along with proof of age, address, and parental or guardian presence at any participating recreation center. Those who do not receive a card can retrieve it from the Durham Region Health Department’s online platform.
The project is funded by several municipalities in the region, including the City of Pickering, Town of Ajax, City of Oshawa, and Oshawa Mary Street YMCA, among others.
