Would you love to hit the slopes on Canada Day? If so, head to Banff Sunshine Village as the Canadian Rockies Ski Resort is reopening tomorrow for some summer skiing.

Sunshine Village plans to welcome skiers and snowboarders starting tomorrow until July 3rd, weather permitting.

Kendra Scurfield, Director of Brand and Communications of Sunshine Village said the resort received 900 cm of snow this past ski and snowboard season, and found itself with a surplus of snow this June – as the resort was scheduled to open for summer sightseeing.

“With all the snow still high in the Rockies, we asked ourselves, “What’s a resort to do? And we answered let’s open for summer skiing & snowboarding!” joked Kendra Scurfield.

They, then, worked with Parks Canada to reopen the resort just in time for Canada Day weekend.

The popular ski resort last opened for summer skiing in 1991.

Sunshine Village’s Strawberry Express Chairlift will run daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (weather and conditions depending) until July 3rd.

Standish chairlift (summer) runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you are visiting this weekend, then you can have the unique experience of summer sightseeing on the Standish quad chairlift, and skiing all with the same lift ticket. This means, before or after enjoying the powdery slopes, you can ride the Standish chairlift to reach the Standish viewpoint platform, hike the trails around the alpine trails and take in the view.

Skiers and summer visitors are asked to stay on dedicated trails.

The admission costs $59 and will include skiing and sightseeing lift tickets.

You can even buy a commemorative “I Rode Sunshine in July” shirt from the onsite retail store.

Afterwards, you may visit the town of Banff for Canada Day fireworks and celebrations.
