Hamilton‘s waterfront will come alive with Sonic Runway, a mesmerizing light-art installation spanning a 432 ft. corridor of 25 LED-lined arches.

This unique exhibit translates audio signals into intricate patterns of light that race down the corridor at the speed of sound, creating a captivating visual and auditory experience from November 1 to 26, 2023.
Sonic Runway was created by artists Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevant and is presented by Creos. It’s not just about the lights; it’s a symphony of sound and colour that can be best enjoyed in the evening from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. when the light and sound components are activated. The installation is free to attend and is located at Pier 8 near the Discovery Centre at 57 Discovery Dr. on the Waterfront Trail.
To add to the artistic ambiance, the area will host temporary art installations by local artists, live performances, and community events on select evenings. Visitors can expect a variety of experiences, from Latin music and dance to improvised world/jazz/funk performances, all set against the stunning backdrop of Sonic Runway’s illuminated arches.
For those planning to visit, it’s worth noting that parking at Pier 8 is limited, so walking, biking, or taking public transportation is encouraged. Additionally, some sections of the Waterfront Trail near the Discovery Centre will be temporarily closed on specific dates to facilitate the installation of Sonic Runway.
While Sonic Runway operates every evening from 5 to 10 pm, several special events are scheduled throughout its run, such as the Hamilton Day celebration on November 3, featuring DJ Donna LoveJoy and more. Diwali Lights on November 16 will celebrate the festival of lights, and on November 24, the Hamilton Glowriders will take to the corridor for a unique nighttime bike ride.
