The Grand Bend offers many ways to relax, party, dine, shop, and spend time as a family. The sunset walks, beach, and restaurants are all perfect for a romantic getaway. For family-friendly experiences, explore the watersports, nearby attractions, the Museum, and, of course, the beach!

There is a Blue Flag Beach and Marina located in Grand Bend. And when those are full or busy, the nearby Pinery Provincial Park offers tons more space. Grand Bend and Pinery are also connected by hiking and biking trails, making it easier to explore both during a trip.

Beach and Water Adventures in Grand Bend

The fun in Grand Bend is all about the beaches! And no matter what kinds of water or beach activities, there is something for everyone. Choose between local town beaches or the Piner Provincial Park areas for a fun day in the sun and around the beach.

  • The main and busiest beach in Grand Bend is the North Beach. Here, beach-goers are close to the main street amenities, with access to parking and washrooms. This is also a Blue Flag Beach!
  • Grand Bend’s South Beach is on the opposite side of the river from North Beach. The area is quieter and offers fewer amenities.
  • Pinery Provincial Park is a great beach destination near Grand Bend, offering sandy shore space and rentals for canoes or kayaks.
  • More watersport rentals are available in Grand Bend from Xtreme Watersports. They offer jet ski rentals, jet boat charter trips, and Airbnb cottage rentals!
  • See Grand Bend and the beaches from above with Grand Bend Parasail!

More Family Fun and Attractions in Grand Bend

As a family or a group with younger kids, there are many fun things to do in Grand Bend. Spend a day at the beach, then make your way up Main Street to find even more fun.

  • The Lambton Heritage Museum is the perfect place to get to know the County and Grand Bend, and it has a variety of galleries and exhibits.
  • A walk-up Main Street will bring you directly to Grand Bend Mini Golf. This family attraction is also, surprisingly, a mini museum, too! The mini golf course and holes are all themed around Grand Bend’s history.
  • Grand Bend Speedway & Festival Centre is an action-packed attraction near Grand Bend and a short drive from Main Street. Watch the live race events from the stands or take advantage of the Speedway’s go-kart experiences.

Hiking or Biking around Grand Bend

Walks, jogs, hikes, or bike rides are some of the best ways to explore while on vacation and can get you access to some incredible hidden views. In Grand Bend specifically, these trails get your views of possible wildlife, Lake Huron, or the river as it runs through Pinery Provincial Park.

  • The trails within Pinery are all relatively simpler trails, although some have a bit of an elevation gain up hills or wooden staircases. The Lookout Trail is shorter at 1km, with views of sand dunes and possibly large birds above the trail.
  • Explore the Provincial Park on a bike with the 14km Savanna Trail, which creates a loop through the park.
  • For many of the Pinery trails, the Visitor’s Centre can provide an experienced guide to help you navigate the park!
  • The Rotary Nature Trail is an 8km hike and bike trail which connects the town of Grand Bend to Pinery Provincial Park.

Summer Events in Grand Bend

If you want to find the summer events in Grand Bend, look to the main local attractions like the North Beach, the Speedway, or the museum! These are all locations for some of Grand Bend’s biggest summer celebrations.

  • No summer is complete without catching a live play at Huron Country Playhouse. After the show, unwind with a picnic on the beautifully landscaped grounds, adding a perfect touch to your summer experience.
  • Take advantage of two markets in Grand Bend that are filled with local goodies of all kinds to take on a picnic, back home, or as gifts for others. The Pinery Market is open every Sunday, and The Lambton Shores Farmers’ Market is open Wednesday mornings on the Lambton Heritage Museum grounds. If visiting later in the summer, catch the Pinery Market Ice Cream Festival in mid-September!
  • Enjoy even more great eats with Grand Bend’s annual Rib Fest, usually hosted at the Grand Bend Speedway in late June.
  • Also, in late June/early July, is Grand Bend Beachfest! Enjoy live music, local food, and beer, all by the beach.
  • Grand Bend’s Main Beach is home to a summer concert series with shows every Sunday. Plus, those surrounding beach bars are also home to stages with weekly or nightly live music.

Where to Dine in Grand Bend

The smaller size of Grand Bend as a town makes the huge number of local eateries and restaurants in the area a welcome surprise! Choose between varying price points, cuisine types, and many places that are perfect for takeout and the beach.

  • There are many options near the beaches which make perfect picnic takeout foods. Choose between Whitecaps Rivershack, The Cottage Café, Bend Bites, or Best Friend Pizza.
  • Relax on one of the waterfront patios around Grand Bend, like Dave’s Pub & Grill in the Oakwood Resort, The Growling Gator, The Tipsy Pelican, or patios away from the water like Chuck’s Roadhouse Bar & Grill, or Over the Top Family Restaurant.

Accommodations in Grand Bend

Vacationers of all kinds will find great places to stay in Lambton County and right in Grand Bend, possibly across from the beaches! Several other options bring your overnight stay(s) outside of Grand Bend and away from some of the crowds or noise.

  • Get as close to the beach as possible with a luxurious stay from Oakwood Resort, or Bonnie Doon Manor on the Beach.
  • Places like The Kiwi Motel, The Amber Hotel, and The Blue Water Motel are a bit further from the beach, but only by about a 5- or 10-minute walk!
  • The Pinery Provincial Park camping ranges from regular tent and RV spots to roofed accommodations and soft-sided shelters!
  • Similarly, and close by, the Rus-Ton Family Campground offers various types of camping, like tent and RV spots, trailer rentals, or cabin rentals.
