The City of Calgary to Issue $1200 Fine for Violating Physical Distancing Measures

imageThe City of Calgary has announced that it will be issuing a $1200 fine for disobeying Public Health Orders.

The City said the priority is to educate Calgarians about the importance of adhering to physical distancing and that The City prefers to only use enforcement (ticketing) as a last resort.

 

As the city is receiving multiple calls regarding Calgarians not following Public Health Orders under the City of Calgary Emergency Act, the City will start to issue tickets for those who are not following the public health order by respecting physical distance requirements when they leave their homes.

As per the news release, since last Friday, city officers conducted 241 patrols and engaged with over 1800 citizens providing them with education.

During that time 311 dispatched 152 service requests to Bylaw Services about physical social distancing concerns.

These include:

  • 69 calls about social distancing concerns in public areas
  • 36 social distancing concerns on private property (private yard, residence or by fire pit)
  • 21 concerns about playground use
  • 26 concerns related to public gatherings with less than 14 people not practicing safe distancing (anything over 15 goes to CPS)
  • Over the same time frame, there were also 182 general inquiries received to 311 about social distancing requirements and recommendations.
