
From Far and Wide stamps (CNW Group/Canada Post)
Canada Post has issued the thirds set of stamps in the multiyear From Far and Wide series. Like the last year’s release, the series focuses on some of the most breathtaking and memorable must-see locations.

Abraham Lake, Alberta
Created in 1972, when the Bighorn Dam was constructed, Abraham Lake is Alberta’s largest artificial lake. Abraham Lake is in David Thompson County, on the North Saskatchewan River between Saskatchewan River Crossing and Nordegg. You’d never known it was man-made – with the Rocky Mountains in the background and the clear, icy-blue colour of the water, it looks right at home.
Athabasca Sand Dunes Provincial Park, Saskatchewan
Athabasca Sand Dunes Provincial Park is home to the largest active sand surface in Canada and hosts a unique ecosystem that supports several species of rare, endemic plants. The sand dunes are 1,925 km² and is located along the south shore of Lake Athabasca in Saskatchewan. This is known to be the largest active land surface in the country.
Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia

Carcajou Falls, North West Territories
After meandering through a flat river valley, the Carcajou River makes a sudden 670-metre drop, creating the spectacular upper Carcajou Falls – the first of three drops. To witness the dramatic falls, you can either hike along the demanding Canol Heritage Trail or take a flightseeing tour from the nearby town of Norman Wells.
French River, Prince Edward Island
Set on an inlet off New London Bay within the Green Gables Shore region, the tiny fishing village of French River exemplifies the rural charm of Prince Edward Island. The boats and brightly painted fish sheds in the harbour, framed by rolling farmland, make it one of the province’s most photographed and painted places.
Herschel Island-Qikiqtaruk Territorial Park, Yukon
Located north of the Arctic Circle, Herschel Island-Qikiqtaruk Territorial Park is a prime destination for experienced wilderness seekers. This living park ishome to the Inuvialuit people, who still use the area for hunting and fishing. Visitors can learn about the island’s unique culture and natural history, and tour a 19th-century whaling station.
Swallowtail Lighthouse, Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick
Since it started service in 1860, the Swallowtail Lighthouse has retained the original wooden tower and continues to operate as a navigation aid in the Bay of Fundy. Thanks to the commanding perch on a rugged peninsula, it will likely be the first landmark you’ll see when arriving by ferry, and is an ideal vantage point for seal, whale and seabird watching.
Îles de la Madeleine, Quebec
Nestled in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Magdalen Islands or Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, is one of the World’s best kept vacation secrets. Its soothing waves, breezes and beaches are a relaxing experience for all wanting to escape the stresses of daily life. From the beaches and nautical activities, to the fresh seafood and local music, the Magdalen Islands guarantees fun for everyone.
Kootenay National Park, British Columbia
Kootenay National Park is a land of contrasts, stretching from the glaciers of the Great Divide to the semi-arid grasslands of the Columbia Valley. The park offers world-class hiking, stunning scenery and a lively and diverse history.
The set of nine stamps includes five Permanent™ domestic-rate stamps, as well as stamps denominated at U.S., International, Oversized and single-purchase rates.
The Permanent domestic-rate stamps are available in booklets of 10 (two of each image) and coils of 100, while the U.S.-, Oversized- and International-rate denominations come in booklets of six and coils of 50. The issue also includes a collectible souvenir sheet featuring all nine stamps cost.
Booklet of 10 stamps (domestic) cost $9.20 and postcards (set of 9) will cost $21.68.
The Official First Day Cover is cancelled in Radium Hot Springs, B.C., in honour of the 100th anniversary of Kootenay National Park, the location featured on the U.S.-rate stamp. The issue was designed by Stéphane Huot of Montréal.
