In the middle of downtown Toronto, a temporary installation is giving people a sense of what makes the Bay of Fundy’s tides so unusual.
Tourism New Brunswick (Explore NB) has set up “Fundy Belle,” a boat-style installation designed to mimic the dramatic rise of the Bay of Fundy’s tides. Running until May 24 near The Well at Front Street West and Spadina Avenue, the experience is free and open to the public.
Visitors step aboard for a short ride that lifts them about 52.5 feet into the air, echoing the height of the Bay of Fundy’s tides, known as the highest in the world. The five-minute ascent is guided by a captain from New Brunswick, who shares stories about the region’s coastal life and maritime history.
The experience leans as much into food as it does storytelling. Enjoy freshly shucked oysters sourced from New Brunswick waters, known for their clean, briny flavour shaped by the region’s tidal conditions.
The installation is designed to introduce Torontonians to the Bay of Fundy without leaving the city.
It also arrives at the start of the summer travel season, with visitors able to enter a draw for a $6,000 travel voucher toward a trip to New Brunswick. Entry requires on-site booking and a signed waiver.
