The City of Toronto is gearing up for an exciting Canada Day celebration on July 1, with a wide range of free activities and events planned throughout the city.
During the daytime, residents can enjoy various activities at several locations across the city. Thomson Memorial Park will host celebrations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring music, children’s crafts, a parade, a bouncy castle, and a pancake breakfast.
Fort York will present “Moving Forward: Celebrating Chinese Communities,” a special event commemorating the centennial of the Chinese Immigration Act. Attendees can enjoy dancing, singing, face painting, food demonstrations, storytelling, and more.
Nathan Phillips Square will come alive with Canada Day programming from noon to 6 p.m. This marks the return of celebrations to the square after a hiatus since 2017. The event will showcase high-energy performances by Alpha Rhythm Roots, The Hitmen Drumline, and Celtic duo Alana and Leah Cline. Families can engage in interactive activities by Muse Arts and Picasso Painters, as well as participate in “The Giant Storybook” activity presented by the Department of Imaginary Affairs.
Mel Lastman Square will also host live performances and family-friendly activities, featuring The Haneen Woman Choir, Trash Panda Brass, JER, and more, all highlighting newcomer artists.
Unlike last year, there will be no fireworks at Mel Lastman Square.
To conclude the day, the city will dazzle spectators with a stunning fireworks display at 10 p.m. Fireworks will light up the sky at Centennial Park, Milliken Park, Stan Wadlow Park, and Ashbridges Bay Park.
Fireworks will also occur at Downsview Park as part of the Downsview Park Canada Day Celebration.
The Canada Day programming is made possible with partial funding from the Government of Canada.
