The city of Toronto has announced its plans for 2022 New Year’s Eve and it includes a massive 10-minute fireworks show.
Mayor John Tory says the city will ring in 2022 with a New Year’s Eve fireworks show across the waterfront.
The city plans to launch a 10-minute, high-altitude fireworks display simultaneously at midnight across Toronto’s waterfront, viewable from Etobicoke to Scarborough — anywhere across the city with views of Lake Ontario.
The city in a news release said, “The unprecedented fireworks display marks the beginning of 2022 – a year in which Toronto’s progress bringing the pandemic to an end will continue and the city will come back stronger than ever.”
Ahead of the display on Friday, December 31, the City will have a livestream from the CN Tower with a mix of live and pre-recorded performances from iconic Toronto music and performing arts venues.
The free, live-streamed broadcast will be available on the City’s CultureTO YouTube channel.
The artist lineup and partner venue details will be announced on Tuesday, December 21.
This year’s New Year’s Eve event will not be held at Nathan Phillips Square.
Those visiting Nathan Phillips Square can explore Cavalcade of Lights – the City’s 17.67-metre (58-foot) Christmas tree, tunnels made from thousands of energy-efficient bulbs, discover glowing ice sculptures in an enchanted forest, an LED light show on City Hall and public ice skating.
