This town in British Columbia is building the World’s Biggest Snowman

imageFort Nelson in British Columbia is hosting the longest winter music and cultural festival that Northern British Columbia has ever seen.

The inaugural event, named Northern Lights Festival, is planned for March 3 to 23 and will include the Northern Lights Canadian Open Sled Dog Championship, Trappers Rendezvous, Men’s Traditional Dene Hand-games Tournament and an Ice Carving Competition. The music festival will showcase Canada’s best new and upcoming talent with internationally acclaimed headline acts like The Sheepdogs, William Prince, and Lion Bear Fox.

As part of the festivities, the town is building the world’s largest snowman with the aim of breaking the Guinness World Record. The planned snowman will be about 130 ft (~40m) tall, 45 ft (~14 m) wide at the base, complete with a scarf that’s over 100ft long!

Plan a trip to Fort Nelson with the whole family during the March Break/Spring Break Week (ON/NS/NB/PEI/BC), and enjoy Northern lights, a day at the famous Liard Hot Springs, dog sledding tours in addition to all the festivities the town has planned for the inaugural music festival.
