The Vancouver Whitecaps have booked their spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals, and they’re now set to face none other than Inter Miami CF, the team headlined by global icon Lionel Messi.
After a dramatic 2-2 draw against Mexico’s Pumas UNAM at Estadio Olímpico Universitario, the Whitecaps advanced on away goals, with the aggregate score tied at 3-3.
With the win, Vancouver has now become the first MLS team to twice knock out a Liga MX side in Mexico without leading after the first leg.
Whether Messi will make the trip to Vancouver is anybody’s guess. Fans were left disappointed last year when he didn’t appear during league play. This time around, the stakes are higher, and the odds of seeing him take the pitch at BC Place on April 23 or 24 are much better. Still, nothing’s confirmed.
Ticket presales for season members and groups begin Thursday, April 10 at noon, with general sales starting Friday at noon. Interest is already high, and with Messi’s potential appearance on the line, expect seats to go fast.
