A range of ready-made foods sold at Sobeys and its affiliated stores across Canada are being pulled from shelves over concerns about possible Listeria contamination.
The recall affects several items, including creamy pasta salads, cauliflower cakes, wraps, and seafood-based products. These were sold under Sobeys banners such as Foodland, IGA, Safeway, and Thrifty Foods in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Western Canada, and British Columbia.
Among the recalled products are Creamy Carbonara Pasta Salad with Bacon and Peas, Creamy Garlic and Spinach Pasta Salad, and Carbonara Pasta Salad with Ham and Bacon. Multiple cauliflower-based items are also listed, including Parmesan Cauliflower Cakes and Spinach Feta versions in both single and four-piece formats.
In B.C., additional items sold at Thrifty Foods are part of the recall. These include a Chicken and Black Bean Wrap, stuffed mushroom caps, and several seafood products like halibut and salmon stuffed pastries. All affected items carry best-before dates up to early August 2026, depending on the product.
The concern centres on Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that may not change how food looks or smells but can still cause illness. Symptoms range from nausea and vomiting to more serious complications such as persistent fever and severe headaches.
Health risks are higher for pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. In severe cases, the infection can lead to serious outcomes, including complications in pregnancy or death.
Customers are advised to check their purchases and avoid consuming any recalled products. Items should either be discarded or returned to the store. Anyone who believes they may have become ill is encouraged to contact a healthcare provider.
