Celebrate summer with one of the biggest festivals in central Alberta! Red Deer’s Westerner Days is an annual event in the city with its origins going as far back as 1892.

Westerner Days Fair & Exposition
Over the past 100+ years, the festival grew from an agricultural showcase to a midway and fair event to the massive celebration it is today.
Westerner Days are on now in the city, and your general admission pass can give you tons of fun for all ages. There are additional ways to add to your fun, like midway ride passes, the Arkells feature concert, and other ticketed events. However, if you need to stretch your general admission pass, see below for all the fun you can have with general admission:
Catch a Free Concert
Westerner Days is bringing a big feature concert to Red Deer with the Arkells on July 22. And if you’re strapped for cash, there will be concerts on site at Westerner Days that you can catch with the price of your admission! The concerts take place during the afternoons and evenings at The District. Artists include:
-
- Face the Earth
- King of Foxes
- Kayla Williams & The Yacht Daddies
- Kate Stevens/Sweet Barry Wine
- Mariya Stokes
- FKB
- Devin Cooper
- The Static Shift
- Foxx Worthee
- JJ Shiplett
- Michael Bernard Fitzgerald
- Josh Sahunta
- The Dungarees
Dining in the District
What is The District? This is a family-friendly area where visitors get access to over 30 food truck vendors, the sounds of the free concerts, and beer gardens for adults. And these local vendors have all of your carnival cravings covered with options like kettle corn, donuts, caramel apples, and ice-cold beverages.
Stay for the Fireworks
Each night of Westerner Days in Red Deer will conclude with a large fireworks display and celebration. Catch this impressive display from either the Racetrack, or The District. The fireworks will go off at 11pm every night, giving you a bit of time after the show to get in one last ride or mini donut.
Embark on a Kidventure
Younger kids may be too frightened for the midway and rides, or simply too young/short. And Westerner Days has a special section just for them, and for their families! The Kidventure stage at the Prairie Pavillion includes a full lineup of performers for kids around 5 and under. Plus, the area will have a variety of interactive experiences like face painting, a bouncy house and course, exhibits, and mini golf.
North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships
Included with the price of Westerner Days admission is a chance to spectate for the North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships. This is a long-standing tradition for Westerner Days, and draws in crowds and competitors from across Canada. The races are divided into two major categories: chariot races, and wagon races. The chariot or wagon has one driver, and the ponies who provide the literal horsepower for the race.
