Calgary will ring in 2023 with fireworks set from atop the iconic Calgary Tower, the city announced today.
There will not be any entertainment organised by the city this year.
The new year’s eve program will begin at 11:55 p.m. with a blessing from Indigenous Elder Clarence Wolfleg. This will be followed by a countdown to midnight with Mayor Jyoti Gondek.
A spectacular eight-minute fireworks display synchronized to a soundtrack curated by CJSW 90.9 FM will light up the sky at midnight.
The soundtrack will feature music from DJ Shub, The Corey Hotline, Sureshock & Miss Fudge, plus Arkells, Coer de Pirate, Aly, & AJ, and Caity Gyorgy.

You can watch fireworks from Olympic Plaza, via a livestream video, or from viewpoints with a line of sight to Calgary Tower.
Calgary Transit will have extended service on New Year’s Eve.
The CTrain will run until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2023. Routes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 22, 301, 302, and MAX Orange, MAX Yellow, MAX Teal and MAX Purple will run until 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2023.

For pedestrian and traffic safety during the fireworks, the following roads will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Dec. 31, 2022, to 12:15 a.m. Jan. 1, 2023:
Centre Street S.E., from 6 Avenue S.E. to 9 Avenue S.E.
9 Avenue S.W., from 1 Street S.W. to 1 Street S.E.
9 Avenue S.W. sidewalk in front of the Calgary Tower
