You Can Now Download Alberta Vaccine Passport With QR Code For International Travel

Alberta has updated its vaccine passport with the QR code that meets the recommended Canadian standard for domestic and international travel.

This updated vaccine passport is now available for download after the province rectified issues with the download.

The Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination or standardized national proof of vaccination follows the SMART Health Card standard which is used and recognized by many top travel destinations for Canadian travellers.

The new vaccine passport includes middle names and the record is in both official languages.

The province says those who already have a QR code vaccine record need not download or reprint the updated version if they do not intend to travel. Albertans can continue to use their already saved vaccine record with a QR code to access local businesses and venues taking part in the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP).

As per the news release, Alberta’s QR code scanning app will recognize both the current and updated QR code vaccine record.

(Update on December 2nd): To read the new QR code with the verifier app, the app will need to be reinstalled. As per the tweet by Alberta Health,”The AB Covid Records Verifier app scans the updated vaccine record for travel & the previous version of the QR code record. If you are having trouble with the app when scanning the updated #COVID19AB QR vaccine record, please delete the app and reinstall it again.”

The province has also geo-restricted access to the COVID-19 records website to within Canada to reduce the risk of cybersecurity attacks.

Canadians who are returning home from international trips should use ArriveCAN, the mobile app and website for travellers to submit mandatory information when arriving in Canada. ArriveCAN has been updated to digitally verify the authenticity of the new Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination, allowing Canadian officials to easily review it at the border.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE NEW VACCINE RECORD

Albertans can download the vaccine record with the new QR code at alberta.ca/CovidRecords.

Those who want to get a printed vaccine record with QR code at no cost can do so by visiting a registry agent office or by calling 811.

  • I got my QR code on my smartphone but cannot get it to download onto my smartphone. How can I download the QR code onto my android?
Also there is no lot number on the code. Is there supposed to be a lot number with the QR code when you get it or does one come later?

  • Same issue here. I’ve been trying all day and I keep getting the old version
Most frustrating. Typical government screw-up 😕

  • I'm trying to get my new Canadian QR code for travel, it still displays the old Alberta code. I do not get the updated one with Alberta logo and Canada flag and in both languages. I only get the old Alberta one, that does NOT display the Canada or the Canada flag and both languages.

  • Trying to download the Canadian proof of vaccination for Alberta but all I get is the provincial one (Alberta)...

    • Alberta vaccine proof with Canada logo as shown in the article is THE Canadian proof of vaccination.
The document you newly downloaded from Alberta site is Canadian COVID-19 Proof of Vaccination if your version:

says “COVID-19 Proof of Vaccination” at the top of the document
      includes
      the official logos for
      your province or territory
the Government of Canada (the word “Canada” with the Canadian flag above the last “a”)
your full name and date of birth
      your COVID-19 vaccination history, including:
      the number of dose(s)
the vaccine type(s), product name(s) and lot number
the date(s) you got your vaccination(s)
a SMART Health Cards QR code
      is a bilingual document

  • I printed the so called updated QR Code for travel but it says its invalid but my original code works fine.. Im travelling next week should I be concerned ?

  • I’ve been trying to download the Canadian version of the QR code and keep getting the old version. Then retried scanning the old version and it tells me that this version is invalid! Tried it with three different QR codes and all invalid! What the heck is going on. Can our Alberta government ever get anything right. The total ineptitude reeks!

  • Another fine example of Alberta Government ineptitude. God forbid that these people should ever look for work in the private sector.

  • Newly downloaded two family QR code’s today and when tested, both came up as ‘invalid’., even after updating the ap! Now what?

  • Very confused, earlier (12:00 hrs 24 Nov 2021), I tried to print the new QR code - was not able to as the system advised that an update was taking place. Later, (16:00hrs 24 Nov 2021), i was able to login and print out my QR code, but it looks similar to my old QR code I printed out on 06 Oct 2021. The 'NEW' one does NOT resemble the SAMPLE as indicated above as it does not have the country of issue - CANADA. Can someone please clarify!

    • The new record like the one in the sample was available today morning. But there were some issues with it. Hence, the province has reverted to the old version until those are fixed.
