Overview
About Ashbridges Bay Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Named after Sarah Ashbridge,a British loyalist from Philadelphia, Ashbridge’s Bay Park was once part of a 5 sq. km marsh on the Don River Delta, which was one of the largest wetlands in eastern Canada. Due to industrial development and sewage disposal into the marsh, Toronto Harbour Commission drained the marsh in 1912 and reclaimed the land on which today’s Ashbridges Bay Park is located. The park was officially opened in 1977. In the early 2000’s the area was revitalized by Waterfront Toronto.
TRCA & City of Toronto are also carrying out remedial conservation to prevent erosion by Lake Ontario.
