Head into the New Year with this list of some of Edmonton’s best new restaurants which opened last year.
The past year saw great variety with Edmonton’s new restaurants, pubs and bars, cafes and bakeries, and small takeout spots. With these different styles comes a huge array of different cuisines to try around the city in 2024. Edmonton has new places for Japanese, Egyptian, Mediterranean, Italian, Chinese, and many other international food styles!
No matter the vibe- casual, upscale, or family dinner- Edmonton has new dining spots for all sorts of get-togethers.
Tiki Tiki on Whyte
Warm yourselves with a taste of Tiki Tiki’s Polynesian fusion menu. The Whyte Avenue bar and restaurant are open for dine-in and takeout; but a reservation is a great idea as the dine-in experience brings the whole tiki bar experience together. Tiki Tiki is fully decorated and styled to fit the tiki bar theme providing a colourful and lively atmosphere. The menu includes a variety of pub snacks and craft cocktails.

Thai Avenue
After Thai Avenue opened in North Edmonton nearly a year ago, the restaurant has continued to please Edmontonians from all parts of the city. Thai Avenue is open for dining in or takeout, and for either lunch or dinner hours. Visit for a chance to taste delicious authentic Thai food with a wide array of vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options available, too. Many of their noodle and rice dishes and appetizers are great to share family-style.

Bella
Whyte Avenue underwent a lot of transformations in 2023, including the addition of many new restaurants like the now-popular Bella. The new restaurant on Whyte offers a menu of Italian-inspired cuisine, as well as monthly and holiday dining events. Bella’s menu is centered around using local ingredients wherever possible. Bella is open for in-person dining only.

Stingray
Century Hospitality Group hit it out of the park with the latest addition to their family of Edmonton restaurants. The Stingray Bar & Eatery, in Crestwood, have a Japanese-inspired menu filled with a large variety of seafood. The restaurant is open to all ages with a kids’ menu and offer deals or specials for each day of the week. They have an extensive menu of shareable plates, classic Japanese fare, bento, and main plates or bowls. Stingray’s drink menu is just as extensive with cocktails, wine, beer, sake, and Japanese whiskeys.

El Jardin
El Jardin has delighted people in Edmonton with authentic Latin flavours since the summer. El Jardin opened in the Mercer Building near the Ice District with a menu of gourmet cuisine “good vibes only.” These menu items include tapas, salads, tacos, more handhelds, large entrees, desserts, and sides.

Moonga Nori
Moonga Nori opened on Whyte Ave. this past fall and is now Edmonton’s only hand maki bar. The menu features much, much more as well. Start with appetizers like miso soup, dumplings, or tataki, and leave room for the temaki, or hand rolls. Moonga Nori also serve raw fish delights like nigiri and sashimi, or blue fin tuna.

Carne Asada Mexican Taqueria
Carne Asada Mexican Taqueria invite you to celebrate “every day is taco Tuesday.” Their menu provides the perfect taco selection for this celebration, too. The authentic Mexican restaurant opened in Edmonton last summer with visitors raving about the fresh ingredients, high quality, and flavourful food. Carne Asada also offers catering services with all of these delicious tacos included in the catering menu.

Honi Honi Tiki Lounge
As you try your cocktails at downtown’s new Honi Honi Tiki Lounge, take notice of the décor. Edmonton’s new-ish Honi Honi Tiki Lounge is a bit of an homage to a now-closed tiki lounge which was once popular in the city: The Beachcomber. The older lounge’s décor has been upcycled to fit the new lounge in town and sits beside a variety of other fun Tiki-inspired décor. Honi Honi serves elevated pub snacks and recently released the newest menu this past December.

Rock N’ Tofu
Rock N’ Tofu is one of the more recent success stories for 2023 restaurant openings in Edmonton. They opened this past October in south Edmonton with a menu inspired by Korean barbecue and street foods. The menu consists of traditional fare like varieties of Soon Tofu, Dolsot, and BBQ.

Ashford House Pub
Manchester Square recently welcomed a neighbourhood pub for the vibrant downtown area. The Ashford House Pub & Kitchen is a family-friendly neighbourhood pub with a warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere often filled with the sounds of live music. They are open for brunch and dinner with a list of craft cocktails, and an impressive list of Scottish and Irish whiskeys. The Ashford House is open for dine-in only.

PhatBar Bakery & Café
This isn’t your grandmother’s baking! Edmonton’s new PhatBar Bakery & Café offer a huge array of sweets and breakfast treats, all with a unique or colourful twist. The bakery started gaining popularity in Edmonton over their now-famous Phat Tarts, one great example of their putting a twist on a classic breakfast favourite. Take their treats to go or enjoy them in the bright and vibrant PhatBar Bakery & Café.

Mai mai Vietnamese Street Kitchen
Mai Mai opened in Edmonton this past year with a menu of authentic Vietnamese street food. Mai Mai is open for take-out and dine-in service. A sample of some of those authentic foods include banh mi (sandwiches), pho, spring rolls, satay, banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes), or a handful of salads.

Sauce Modern Caribbean Cuisine
Sauce Modern Caribbean Cuisine is one of north Edmonton’s newest restaurants with a perfect date-night atmosphere, or place to gather with friends for drinks. Even if you only play to stop by for drinks, consider trying the Modern Caribbean Cuisine. The extensive menu includes starters and appetizers, main entrees, cocktails, drinks, and desserts. All of that is available to order online or to eat in their dining room.

Dolly’s Cocktail Bar
Dolly’s Cocktail Bar opened in downtown Edmonton with a bright and signature look to the restaurant. The theme of the bar is pink, which is tastefully scattered around the bar’s décor and dining area. The bar is not a bright, fluorescent pink, but rather a warm and dimly lit pink, creating a cozy place for cocktails. Dolly’s also offer a small menu of entrees, salads, appetizers, and desserts.

Darling
Your visit to Darling will look different almost each time you visit. The restaurant is focused on offering fresh and local ingredients in their menu and rotate the menu seasonally in order to fit that focus. Any time of year, you can depend on Darling for a refreshing brunch, dinner, or snacks. They offer mains and a variety of appetizers available for dine-in only.

Sushi Café Madang
Beyond sushi rolls, Sushi Café Madang near Whyte Avenue offers a blend of Korean and Japanese cuisine from brunch to dinnertime. Those dishes include noodle bowls, meat entrees, and sashimi. The sushi rolls are available to order as platters, too. The restaurant is set up around a large garden area outside of what was once an Old Strathcona home. During the warmer months, the large patio is a welcoming and homy space for any meal. Meals are available to-go or for dine-in.

Arbour
Arbour restaurant opened on Whyte Ave. in Edmonton early last summer. The menu is a globally inspired and chef-driven selection of fresh and delicious plates. Arbour focuses on smaller plates, including sourdough pizza, and craft cocktails. Join them to try the brunch menu, dinner menu, or drink menu, or make an effort try it all in a few visits! The interior of the restaurant will transport you to a small European side-street café.

Marlo
Marlo is for anyone with a serious love of tacos, or anyone looking to find good authentic tacos in Edmonton. Marlo’s tacos and burritos are made with fresh handmade corn tortillas. Those are then topped with fresh ingredients like meats, cheeses, vegetables, or seafood. Other menu items to look forward to trying from Marlo include tostadas, dessert, local beers, and creative craft cocktails.

Sabor de Los Andes
Sabor de Los Andes started out in Edmonton as a food truck and opened their first storefront in Spring 2023. They serve authentic Latin food and have kept their food truck in operation. These dishes are made fresh daily with items like arepa, an arepa burger, empanadas, or salchipapa. Dine-in or take it to go.

Feng Donburi
Feng Donburi opened have been open in southwest Edmonton since the spring. Since then, many have had the chance to try some of the best new sushi in the city. The menu is filled with good variety among items like sushi, sashimi, hoso-maki and cones, appetizers, noodle dishes, bento, and other Japanese street food items. Dine-in or take it to go.

Chatkhara By Krishna
Chatkara is Edmonton’s newest all-vegetarian restaurant. They’re dedicated to vegetarian cuisines, as well as to offering it through authentic Indian and Indo-Chinese food. Stop by the downtown Edmonton location for the breakfast, lunch, or dinner menu. Many of the dishes are made with fresh vegetables, paneer, potatoes, or Indian cottage cheese. Tansen Izakaya
Tansen Izakaya opened on Whyte last summer to bring Edmonton an authentic taste of Japanese cuisine. And their menu offers many parts of the cuisine to taste! Tansen Izakaya’s menu consists of many great dishes to share with family or friends like sushi, appetizers, and sashimi. But don’t hesitate to order these rolls and items to try on your own! More from Tansen’s menu include ramen, yakitori, grilled meats and seafood, and deep fried items. Dine in or take it to go.

Shiawase Ramen
Keep your eyes open for Shiawese Ramen in West Edmonton, who are located in the Monty’s Pizza building. Their warming and hearty ramen dishes are not a dish you’ll want to miss out on this winter. They opened in the fall of 2023 and have warmed hundreds of full customers in Edmonton since with ramen dishes like miso, garlic, tonkatsu. Other dishes available at Shiawese Ramen include sides and appetizers like gyoza, green onion cakes, or rice bowls.

Pharaoh’s Restaurant
There aren’t many places in Edmonton for authentic Egyptian cuisine. Luckily, 2023 granted us at least one new authentic Egyptian restaurant with the opening of Pharaoh’s Restaurant. They opened in August with great excitement around a number of their dishes continuing to grow. Pharaoh’s is a great place for a family meal with shareable plates and appetizers, or for an individual with their meat or vegan entrees.

Hanan’s Kitchen
Hanan’s Kitchen is now open in Edmonton with a menu of Mediterranean and globally inspired fare. Take Hanan’s to go or enjoy it in their dining room. The food is made fresh each day and includes traditional pitas and handhelds, pizza, salads, mains and entrees, and classic pub foods like burgers, fries, and poutine.
