7-Eleven Canada is adding a familiar item from Japan’s convenience store counters to its Canadian lineup.
Starting March 4, the company will sell a Tamago Sando Egg Salad Sandwich, modelled after the best-selling version found at 7-Eleven stores in Japan.
Per the news release, the sandwich is made with cage-free eggs, Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise and shokupan, the soft milk bread that gives the product its signature texture.
In Japan, the Tamago Sando is a mainstay of konbini, 24-hour convenience stores, and has developed a following well beyond the country. Its creamy, umami-forward egg filling and notably fluffy bread have made it something of a cultural shorthand for Japanese convenience food. The late Anthony Bourdain once described the bread as “pillows of love,” a comment that helped amplify its reputation internationally.
Marc Goodman, Vice President and General Manager of 7-Eleven Canada, said customer demand played a central role in the decision. According to Goodman, Canadians have been asking for more of the products that make 7-Eleven Japan a destination for travellers. He characterized the launch as a response to that interest, positioned at what he called an accessible price point.
Per the news release, 580,000 Canadians visited Japan in 2024, marking a record year. The Japan National Tourism Office of Toronto says Canadians continued setting visitor records into 2025.
Tamago Sando Egg Salad Sandwich will be available for $5 at 7-Eleven locations in Canada from March 4 to April 28, 2026.
