Alberta is providing $900,140 from the Apprenticeship Learning Grant to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) to fund 134 new trade seats, Minister of Skilled Trades and Professions, Kaycee Madu announced today.

This initiative aims to encourage more students to pursue a career in the skilled trades in Alberta.
The government offers apprenticeship education programs in 47 designated trades, and SAIT currently provides 6,000 apprenticeship education seats in 30 programs.
The 134 new seats will be allocated to different trades as follows: 12 for cooks, 16 for crane and hoisting equipment operators, 24 for heavy equipment technicians, 34 for millwrights, 10 for machinists, 12 for plumbers, 12 for recreation vehicle technicians, and 14 for welders.
These seats will be available starting in the 2022-23 academic year.
