The Royal Canadian Mint recently released a unique $2 circulation coin that features a black outer ring to commemorate the late Queen Elizabeth II’s dedication to Canada throughout her historic 70-year reign. The coin design is a tribute to the Queen’s unwavering service to the nation, and it’s the first time in Canadian history that a circulation coin features a black outer ring.
The coin’s reverse design features a traditional polar bear design created by Brent Townsend, which is at the core of the coin. The obverse design of the coin features the Susanna Blunt effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, which is surrounded by the black outer ring.
If you are looking to add this unique and historic coin, the Royal Canadian Mint is holding a public coin exchange this weekend in Calgary.
The exchange will be held at CrossIron Mills Mall, where people can bring in their old coins or banknotes and exchange them for this special edition $2 circulation coin.
The exchange is a cash-only transaction, and any Canadian circulation coin or banknote denomination is acceptable. There will be a limit on the number of coins each person can exchange.
