The donation follows a six-week campaign during which the public was invited to participate and contribute.
“Alberta dairy farmers know there are families who don’t have access to key food items like milk or dairy products. This campaign has been our way of supporting the efforts of Food Banks Alberta and individual food banks across the province in trying to meet significant demand,” said Stuart Boeve, Chair of Alberta Milk, and a dairy farmer of more than 25 years from Taber in a news release.
“We thank Albertans who participated and donated to such an important cause.”
Since 2004, Alberta Milk has raised over $220,000 for community campaigns and donated more than 60,000 litres of milk. The recent $100,000 gift will enable the purchase of dairy products for thousands across Alberta, where over 155,000 children access food banks monthly. A
This donation comes at a critical time, with food bank usage in Alberta increasing by 73% from 2019 to 2022. In March 2022 alone, over 156,000 Albertans accessed food banks, a 34% surge from 2021. Approximately 45% of users are families with children. Dairy products are among the top requested items, highlighting the significance of Alberta Milk’s contribution to ensuring essential nutrients are provided to those in need.
Alberta Milk represents nearly 500 dairy farms and contributing $1.5 billion to the provincial GDP.
