Alberta businesses will no longer need to check for vaccine passports to operate without capacity limits as the province is removing the Restrictions Exemption Program as part of slowly easing COVID-19 related restrictions in the province.
Stage 1 of the plan to end all COVID-19 restrictions which is effective Feb. 8 at 11:59 p.m. announced by Premier Jason Kenney will also include the lifting of capacity limits on venues under 500 capacity, including libraries and places of worship.
Masking, social gathering limits and mandatory work-from-home measures will be in place until the province enters Stage 2 on March 1st.

Indoor entertainment, event and recreation facilities
- Large facilities must limit capacity to:
- 50% if facility has fire occupancy load over 1,000.
- 500 attendees if facility has fire occupancy load between 500 and 1,000.
- No capacity limit if facility has fire occupancy load under 500.
- Food and drink consumption in seated audience settings or during intermissions can resume.
- Limit of 10 people maximum per table. No mingling between tables.
- No interactive activities permitted (for example: dancing, darts, billiards).
- Liquor service must end at 11 pm and stop liquor consumption at 12:30 am.
Restaurants, Cafes, Bars, Pubs, Nightclubs
- Indoor and outdoor dining permitted with no facility capacity limit.
- Limit of 10 people maximum per table. No mingling between tables.
- No interactive activities are permitted (for example: dancing, darts, billiards).
- Liquor service must end at 11 pm and stop liquor consumption at 12:30 am.

- Indoor group classes, training, and competitions are permitted, but participants are required to:
- screen for symptoms
- maintain 2 metres distancing while engaged in physical activity (except youth)
- wear a mask while engaged in physical activity (except youth)
- Spectator attendance is restricted to:
- fire code capacity limits for large facilities
- masks are mandatory (except for children 12 and under as of Feb. 14)
- Outdoor activities can continue with no restrictions.
Alberta will enter Stage 2 of easing restrictions on March 1st in the absence of concerning trends in public health and health care indicators. Stage 2 will see the lifting of restrictions on social gatherings, all indoor capacity restrictions, closing times, alcohol service, table capacity in restaurants and interactive activities, and the removal of mask mandate.
