Science World in Vancouver is gearing up for an exciting day of tech and tinkering with the Tech-Up Showcase. This not-to-be-missed event promises a day filled with innovation and learning, offering free admission to all attendees.
Sponsored by Amazon Future Engineer, the day promises a variety of activities, from coding to robotics, all aimed at engaging visitors, young and old, in the wonders of technology.
The Tech-Up Showcase on September 19 will feature hands-on activities ranging from robotics and coding to live cultural performances. Last year, the event drew more than 9,400 visitors, and organizers are preparing for another large turnout.
One of the highlights is ‘Your Voice Is Power,’ a workshop that combines computer science with music by allowing participants to remix songs by Indigenous artists. With the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaching later in September, the workshop is designed to connect technology with cultural storytelling.
A live performance from YB Nakota, a traditional Sioux singer from Paul’s First Nation in Alberta, is also scheduled. Using song and drum, he shares stories of heritage and resilience. His performance will take place at 1:20 p.m.
Other activities include coding challenges for children, such as guiding Robot Mice through mazes (recommended for ages 4–9) and programming Roving Finch Robots to explore new paths (recommended for ages 10+).
The Tech-Up Showcase this Friday will run from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Science World, located at 1455 Quebec St. Advance tickets are not required. The activities are on a first-come, first-serve basis, and an earlier arrival is better to avoid capacity limits being reached.
