The Niagara Parks Power Station was the first major power station on the Canadian side of the Niagara River and has generated electricity for over 100 years. This magnificent historical building will be brought back to life starting Labour Day weekend, in a way that has never been seen before as you explore Currents: Niagara’s Power Transformed.

Immerse yourself in the world of power generation at the Currents show, and be amazed by how the light and sound show depicts the ingenuity of the engineers who harnessed Horseshoe Falls to power the land.

At night the entire power station with its massive, sky blue turbines is transformed into a wonderful and magical place. You will find yourself in awe, as you discover the world of power.

You will be mesmerized by water and its waves above, below and all around you. You will also see “electric currents” all around. The creators wanted the audience to feel as though they are part of the water and electricity.

This incredible show was created by the Thinkwell Group, who used an enchanting display of lights, animation, sounds and special effects to create an interactive storytelling experience using laser phosphor projectors, architectural LEDs throughout the station to highlight special elements of the building with complementary lighting and atmospheric effects.

Currents make use of 23 laser phosphor projectors on 5 distinct surfaces ( wall + floor + 3 turbines) using 3D mapping to create an immersive video environment – 32 channels of immersive and interactive audio content are fed through 35 different speakers. Reactive elements using proprietary projector autocalibration and an interactive tracking system with 6 infrared blasters are also used.

The experience unfolds in three parts:
