Following its successful run in cultural hubs like Montreal, Paris, and New York, the immersive virtual reality experience Horizon of Khufu arrives in Calgary for a limited time.
From December 12, 2024, to January 30, 2025, visitors can explore the wonders of Ancient Egypt in a groundbreaking 45-minute VR journey at CF Chinook Centre.
What to Expect
Produced by Paris-based Studio Excurio and distributed by Montreal’s PHI Studio, Horizon of Khufu takes guests on a vivid exploration of the Great Pyramid of Khufu.
Spanning 10,000 square feet, the experience uses VR technology to transport participants over 10,000 kilometres to the heart of Cairo, where they’ll delve into the mysteries of the pyramid built between 2,590 and 2,565 BC.
Participants will be equipped with VR headsets, stepping into the shoes of avatars to wander through galleries and spaces of the ancient structure, many of which are usually inaccessible to the public.

The journey concludes with a view from the pyramid’s summit, overlooking the Giza Plateau and modern Cairo, and includes a ride aboard a solar barque on the Nile to witness the funeral rites of King Khufu.
Designed with input from Peter Der Manuelian, Harvard University’s Professor of Egyptology and Director of the Giza Project, the experience integrates the latest archaeological findings for a scientifically accurate portrayal of life and rituals in ancient Egypt.
Horizon of Khufu is suitable for participants aged 8 and up, making it an engaging activity for families and history enthusiasts alike.
