The Calgary Zoo’s popular Penguin Walk is celebrating its ninth anniversary as the king penguins will once again take to the pathways for another royal waddle through the zoo.

This year, the zoo’s newest king penguin chick, Boudicca, who hatched on July 18, 2020 will join as many as 13 adult king penguins participating in the daily walk including: Diana, Grace, Arthur, Solomon, Tut, Cleopatra, Antoinette, Josephine, Louis, Phillipe, Henri, Napoleon, and George for the daily waddle from Penguin Plunge.

King penguins are listed as least concern on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List as they need healthy polar habitats to survive and these ecosystems are heavily affected by changing climates.

This year the zoo is asking visitors to arrive before the walk starts in order to find a viewing spot along the designated route.

Visitors also must remain in their viewing spot for the duration of the walk (~15 mins).

The zoo says staff and volunteers will be onsite to guide visitors to the location and helpfully remind people to physically distance between their household and other households.
