The Canadian Forces Snowbirds has announced they are cancelling the scheduled flyby over Lunenburg Bay as part of Bluenose Days.
Canada’s iconic military aerobatics team of the Royal Canadian Air Force had planned to fly over select locations in Nova Scotia and PEI from August 21st to 25th.
Due to logistical reasons, Canadian Snowbirds announced on August 19th that they are cancelling scheduled flyby practice at Greenwood and flybys in Sydney, and Charlottetown.
Today, the team announced the cancellation of the entire Maritime trip through social media saying, “It’s with profound regret that we have to cancel our flybys of Lunenburg and Halifax scheduled for today and tomorrow. Flying 11 jets over the 3175km that separate Moose Jaw to Halifax requires a minimum of 6 refuelling/servicing stops. That equates to 66 individual aircraft flights.”
It’s with profound regret that we have to cancel our flybys of Lunenburg and Halifax scheduled for tomorrow.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, that induced delays on our transit we will not be able to make it to the Maritimes in order to meet our very tight airshow timelines.— CF Snowbirds (@CFSnowbirds) August 24, 2021
All Atlantic Canada air shows featuring the Canadian Snowbirds including Airshow Atlantic and shows in Gander and Conception Bay were cancelled due to COVID-19.
The Canadian Snowbirds will be participating in London Airshow (Aug. 27 to 29) and Canadian International Air Show (Sept. 4 to 6, 2021).
The Canadian Snowbirds flew cross country last year as part of Operation Inspiration to salute Canadians doing their part to fight the spread of COVID-19. The morale-boosting tour was cut short due to the tragic crash of a Snowbirds aerobatic team jet.
Who makes their schedule? Do they not know the geography of Canada when they create these programs in the first place?
