The City of Calgary is lowering adoption fees for cats and dogs throughout November in an effort to help more animals find permanent homes before the onset of winter. The initiative is being offered through the City’s Animal Services Centre.
Under the temporary pricing, cat adoptions cost $84.52 plus GST, reduced from the regular $169, while dog adoptions are $100 plus GST, down from $225.
According to Kathleen Dickson, Coordinator of Animal Care and Clinic Services, each adoption not only gives a pet a second chance but also opens space for other animals needing shelter.
All animals adopted through the program are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and health-checked, and come with a one-year City of Calgary pet license. These measures ensure that adopted pets are healthy, traceable, and ready to transition into their new homes safely.
With temperatures dropping, Animal Services is also reminding residents to take precautions to protect their pets during the winter months. Dickson advised owners to bring pets indoors when it’s cold, provide warm bedding, and limit outdoor exposure, noting, “If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.”
Adoptions are available seven days a week at the Animal Services Centre, 2201 Portland Street S.E. Calgarians can visit calgary.ca/adoptapet to view available animals and schedule a visit.
