The city of Calgary has announced the winners of the second annual Winter City Design Competition who will receive funding of $15,000 to construct and install their design in downtown Calgary.

Through the Winter City Design Competition, the city asks resident designers, artists and post-secondary students to suggest creative ideas so that Calgarians can socialize and interact with downtown during the winter months.

The theme of 2023 competition was Winter Dreamscape. Two winning designs were chosen this year — “Illumine” and “Chinook-ery”.

According to the news release, “Illumine” by Paul Miller and Miles Abesdris consists of three glowing frames, each containing movable and interactive elements, focused on public interactions and constant creation.
