Canada Post’s New Stamps Tell Stories of Pride History and Resilience

Canada Post has released four new Places of Pride stamps, highlighting sites that played an important role in Canada’s 2SLGBTQIA+ history.

The new issue is the second and final set in a series recognizing 2SLGBTQIA+ pioneers and the places where communities gathered, organized and pushed for change.

This year’s stamps feature Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium in Vancouver, Metamorphosis in Saskatoon, The 519 in Toronto and The Turret in Halifax.

Each site carries a different piece of history. Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium is known for its legal fight connected to 2SLGBTQIA+ rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Metamorphosis is described as the first celebration of queer culture in Western Canada. The 519 became the first City of Toronto community centre run by and for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The Turret served as a key gathering place for social, political and cultural life in Halifax from 1976 to 1982.

Canada Post said the stamps are meant to tell the stories of places that became part of the broader struggle for equality and freedom.

The Places of Pride stamps use illustrations to capture key moments in the 2SLGBTQIA+ rights movement in Canada. The 2025 set featured Club Carousel in Calgary, Truxx in Montréal, Hanlan’s Point Beach in Toronto and the 3rd North American Native Gay & Lesbian Gathering in Beausejour, Manitoba.

This year’s issue was designed by Kelly Small of Intents & Purposes Inc., illustrated by Tim Singleton and printed by Lowe-Martin. It includes a booklet of eight Permanent domestic rate stamps and four Official First Day Covers.

The stamps and collectibles are available beginning June 5 at select postal outlets across Canada and through Canada Post online.
