Canada is heading to Eurovision.
The European Broadcasting Union and CBC/Radio-Canada announced that Canada will take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria, marking a major step for the country’s music scene on an international stage.
Canada will compete in the Semi-Finals when it joins the contest. CBC/Radio-Canada, the country’s national public broadcaster, is expected to share details later this year on how the Canadian entry will be chosen.
The announcement comes shortly after CBC/Radio-Canada became a full Member of the EBU, which made Canada eligible to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest starting with its 71st edition.
Per the news release, Canada is the first new country to enter Eurovision since Australia joined in 2015. While Eurovision was born in Europe, Canadian interest has been growing for years. During the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in May, Canada ranked in the Top 3 countries in the “Rest of the World” vote. Canadians were also among the biggest ticket-buyers outside Europe, with many travelling to Vienna for the Semi-Finals and Grand Final.
Marie-Philippe Bouchard, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, said the announcement was especially meaningful on Canada Day, pointing to the chance to showcase Canadian talent on one of music’s most recognized stages.
Martin Green CBE, Director of the Eurovision Song Contest at the EBU, welcomed Canada’s participation and noted the country’s long connection to Eurovision, including Canadian artists who have performed there. He specifically named Céline Dion, who won the contest in 1988.
The Eurovision Song Contest remains one of the world’s largest live music events. More than 130 million people across 35 markets watched the 2026 contest from Vienna.
