The Public Health Agency of Canada has released the COVID-19 projections which estimate the number of coronavirus cases and deaths based on various criteria.
Community transmission started later in Canada allowing Public health officials to put into effect proactive measures earlier than many other countries. As per the modelling, there will be between 22,580 to 31,850 COVID-19 cases and 500-700 deaths by April 16.
The modelling scenarios also show that with no controls up to 80 per cent of the population would become infected with around 300,000 deaths.
With more strict measures, the number of people infected with COVID-19 will range between 9,34000 and 1,879 000, based on 2.5 to 5 per cent infections.
Public health officials sounded a note of caution stating that to get the pandemic under control, various measures like physical distancing will continue over time in various waves.
