As the country is dealing with the fall-out of COVID-19 pandemic, the essential services workers are at the forefront of serving Canada’s communities.

As a result, Canadian Tire Corporation has announced that the Canadian Tire Associate Dealers have implemented a temporary special support payment of $2 per hour for all active Canadian Tire store employees.

The increased special support is from March 22 to May 2, 2020.

“In these unprecedented times, it is important to acknowledge the hard work of our teams and show our appreciation for their commitment to our stores, our communities and our customers,” said Gerry Feist, President, Canadian Tire Dealers’ Association, and Associate Dealer, Canadian Tire store #288 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Canadian Tire retail stores across the country remain open with reduced hours to allow for enhanced cleaning and restocking.

Canadian Tire Corporation has closed its other retail stores, including Mark’s/L’Équipeur, SportChek, Atmosphere, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, National Sports and PartSource. The temporary closure which started on March 19 will be in effect until April 2, at which time operations will be reassessed. During the closure period, Canadian Tire announced that full and part-time employees will be paid.

Gas+ locations are open, with regular operating hours.

Many other retailers including Sobeys have announced increased pay.
