About Chinook Honey Company & Chinook Arch Meadery, Okotoks

Chinook Honey Company is a small honeybee apiary located in Okotoks, Alberta owned by Art and Cherie Andrews.

It was started as a beekeeping hobby in 1995. Chinook Arch Meadery is the first honey winery in Alberta and sells a selection of fine meads ranging from dry to sweet and including fruit flavoured and spiced.

It is a small apiary , but you can expect personal service here.

It’s a good learning experience for the elementary children as they can learn a lot about the honey bees, their social structure, and the honey making process.

In the live observation hive located in the shop , one can watch the queen, bees feeding the young brood,and the worker bees.

During harvest season you may be able to catch the beekeepers extract the honey.

Try the award winning meads in the store. A variety of products made from honey are for sale, including skincare products, beeswax candles, jams and jellies.

The medicinal “apitherapy” items are also available, based on hive by-products believed to be beneficial to humans.

 
The Company offers an Apiary & Winery tour which last about 45-60 minutes.

The honey company holds Harvest festival in August, when kids can have a hands on honey making experience and Christmas at the Hive event in December,which is fund raiser program with many activities including making of snow beeswax candles.

Who all can go and enjoy ? – Children (>4 years) and adults will enjoy learning about the honey bees and honey making process and the yummy ice creams.

Chinook Honey Company’s country store is located just 20 minutes south of Calgary, Alberta. There is no public transport.Drive south through Okotoks on Hwy 2A (Northridge Drive) to intersection of Hwy 2A and Hwy 7, about 5 kilometres. Turn west onto Hwy 7. Drive up the hill and turn south(left) onto 16 Street. Chinook Honey Company is the first farm (Look for the blue buildings) on your right.
