Events Description

WCMA Roots Artist of the Year nominee and past winner of the Faith Nolan Prize for Music, Ben Sures has performed his brand of storytelling songs across Canada, the U.K., and Beirut. His most recent album, The Story That Lived Here, was No. 1 on CKUA for three weeks after its release.

Sures was raised at the Winnipeg Folk Festival where he studied his craft observing the likes of Odetta, Stan Rogers, Taj Mahal and Tom Paxton among others. He learned the craft of storytelling and relating to an audience in the beginning, attending concerts and folk festivals and then mastered his craft over the next two and a half decades as a touring musician. A natural performer, Sures is known for his humour, accomplished guitar playing and appearances on numerous albums by Canadian roots and blues artists, as well as on stage.

His style of performance blends relatable storytelling, original songs, humour, dazzling acoustic guitar playing, often alongside skilled great accompanying musicians.

8PM | Lisa Hewitt
Lisa Hewitt is a Canadian country music singer-songwriter and licensed real estate agent based in Edmonton. Best known for her independent career spanning the late 1990s to the 2010s, Hewitt released three studio albums, achieved national radio airplay, and won Independent Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2005 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards.

Born in Regina and raised in Saskatchewan, Hewitt was immersed in music from a young age, influenced by her father’s role as a fiddler in a country-Ukrainian band and her family’s tradition of singing at church and school events. She began her professional career in 1997 after moving to Edmonton, debuting with local performances supported by Canadian country veteran Joyce Smith, who provided a backing band for her first show. Her self-titled debut album followed in 1999 on the independent SOCAN Records label, featuring tracks such as “I Just Wanna Hold You” and “Settle for Love,” which helped establish her presence in the Canadian country scene.
