A new adaptation of the gothic classic exploring what it means to be truly alive.
Mary Shelley’s original novel was published when the Industrial Revolution and scientists, “playing God”, transformed society through technological innovation. Arguments are still made today over the merits of those profound changes. Similarly, this thought provoking original work by 9th Hour Theatre Company explores ways in which some today are “playing God” again in a new form of revolution by ushering in an age to replace humanness with humanoids in the form of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
By fixing our minds only on what is possible, do scientists and society lose sight of what is true, noble, just, beautiful, or good? This highly energetic and entertaining fresh spin on a gothic classic features the newly activated humanoid AdamAi and follows the Frankenstein and DeLacey families as they navigate their relationships to it and with each other. Ideas clash and characters die over what it means to be truly alive!
