Events Description
Lula Lounge comes alive with seven nights of salsa, jazz, timba, boogaloo, samba, baile funk, Afro-bop, cumbia, and soul, bringing together artists from across Toronto and beyond.
While incorporating many rhythms and genres, this year’s edition places a strong emphasis on Cuban artists and musical traditions, celebrating the central role that they have had in shaping the venue’s nearly 25-year history. At a time when the politics of Cuba have once again come into the international spotlight, the contributions of Cuban music to international scenes feel especially relevant.
This year marks the first Lulaworld festival presented in partnership with new venue owners Sasha Khan and Oscar Torres. Longtime Lulaworld staff are thrilled to welcome them to the Lula community as they carry on the traditions of this grassroots venue, building on the legacy of previous owners José Ortega and José Nieves and affirming a commitment to live music, women-led projects, and culturally rooted programming.
As the festival celebrates its 20th anniversary, it looks ahead to another milestone: the 25th anniversary of Lula Lounge in 2027, with plans underway for special programming that will recognize the venue’s role as a gathering place for artists and audiences, and its contribution to Toronto’s cultural life.
