About The West Coast Trail

The West Coast Trail, organised by Ecosummer Expeditions is a 76 km (47 miles) long wilderness hike that takes travellers along the shores of Vancouver Island’s southwestern coast, through rainforests, bogs, tidal pools and rugged terrain.

What to Do at The West Coast Trail?

Journey through the heart of the rainforest as you move along the twists and turns of the hiking trail. Along your path you will have opportunities to see black bears, sea lions, wolves, cougars, seabirds, Orcas, gray whales and other wildlife. See beautiful sandstone cliffs, caverns, beautiful sea stacks, cross surge channels, swim in slow moving waters, trek along coastlines, traverse rainforests, enjoy sandy beaches, travel over bogs, cross suspension bridges, experience cable car crossing, ascend/descend steep ladders. A combination moderate and difficult trails, your 7 day journey through rocky/muddy/ sandy grounds will be rewarded with amazing scenery and spectacular wildlife- an altogether rewarding experience for the trekker.

  • 6 km hike from Gordon River Trailhead, Port Renfrew to Thrasher Cove
  • 8 km hike from Thrasher Cove to Camper Bay
  • 9 km hike from Camper Bay to Walbran Creek
  • 11 km hike from Walbran Creek to Cribs Creek
  • 17 km hike from Cribs Creek to Tsusiat Falls
  • 13 km hike from Tsusiat Falls to Michigan Creek
  • 12 km hike from Michigan Creek to Bamfield

Reservations for 2017 hiking season will open in November 2016 upon approval by Parks Canada.

Tour Cost: $2,190.00 + 5% GST

Coast Trail trips begin and end in Victoria on Vancouver Island.

 

Amenities & Other Information

Roundtrip transportation to the trailhead from Victoria and boat shuttles along the Trail are included in the package. You will be provided with a fully qualified CPR trained wilderness guide, tents, kitchen, cooking gear, all meals and snacks. You will be spending your nights in wilderness moving camp.

Camping fees and Gratuities for guides are not included in the package.

You should have a Parks Canada permit. Please carry a pair of well-broken hiking boots, and other personal clothing & equipment (in the Clothing & Equipment List).

The WCT wilderness terrain is geared to trained hikers over 12 years of age. Suited for those without respiratory, cardiac, or circulatory disorders or limited mobility. You will be hiking with a 20-kg (45-lb) pack on your back.
