London, Ontario native Damian Warner has won gold in Decathlon at the Tokyo Olympics setting an Olympic record with 9018 points.
He is the first Canadian to bring home the gold medal in Decathlon.
Damian Warner’s Olympics performance set a Canadian record and it is also the first time an Olympic gold medallist has crossed 9000 points.
He broke the previous Olympic record of 8893 points set by American Ashton Eaton at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Warner won bronze in 2016.

Fellow Canadian and Whitby native Pierce LePage placed fifth in the event.
The highest score in the decathlon is by France’s Kevin Mayer, who set a world record with a total of 9,126 in 2018.
