Alberta is advising travellers to expect delays since a substantial industrial convoy will be moving through northeast Alberta, starting from Edmonton and heading towards Fort McMurray, beginning on Tuesday, December 10.
This operation involves transporting a massive piece of industrial equipment, measuring 8.7 meters in width, 10.2 meters in height, and 47 meters in length.
The load weighs a significant 490,000 kilograms and will be hauled by a 352-wheeled trailer. Due to its extraordinary size and weight, the convoy will maintain a maximum speed of 60 km/h and will occupy the full width of the highway, including shoulders.
In certain sections, it will necessitate travelling against the usual traffic flow, and power line lifts will be required in specific areas.
The journey is meticulously planned over several days, starting early in the morning of December 10. The load departs Dacro, Edmonton, travelling east on 51 Avenue and south via 75 Street, Whitemud, and Highway 216 before staging at Highway 14/21. Day moves continue east on Highway 14, north on Highway 36, and east on Highway 45 to Two Hills. Subsequent routes include Highways 45, 29, 36, 28, and 63 to Boyle and a POE staging area. The final leg on Dec. 13 follows Highway 63, using ramps in Fort McMurray to bypass overpasses, concluding with the Suncor ramp.
Over the four days of travel, stops are planned at Two Hills, Boyle, and Fort McMurray.
