6. Summer Music Festival

Classical Music Festival. This year we pay homage to the PanAm Games and explore the rise to pre-eminence of American culture in the 20th century. The amalgam of traditions brought by successive waves of Europeans and Africans, fused with indigenous Amerindian heritage, produced a dizzying multitude of genres and styles of music across North and South America. The lines between popular culture and high art become increasingly blurred – think of Gershwin, Bernstein and the entirely new traditions of Jazz and Musical Theatre!
