The second oldest family-owned ski hill in Ontario, Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride is an extremely popular skiing and mountain biking location north of Haliburton.

Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride
Overlooking Eagle and Moose Lakes, the 100 acres of land that was once home to the summer estate of Sir Sam Hughes, Canada’s Minister of Militia and Defence during World War I, is a must-visit if you are looking to explore the Canadian Shield and hardwood forest awash with hues of gold and auburn.
Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride transforms into a magical place with its dense forests looking like a stunning painting with vibrant shades of fiery red, orange and golden. There isn’t anything prettier than the trees resembling the colours of the glorious sunset and the leaves gracefully taking flight with the light breeze.

Sir Sam’s Ski & Bike
From the top, explore lookout points before strolling down the hillside at your own pace.
During July & August (until Labour Day), you can ride up the hill on (carpet lift in 2025) or hike/bike to the top of the hill through hardwood forests and fields to enjoy glorious 180-degree views over Eagle and Moose Lake.
During the Fall season, you can ride (carpet lift) or hike up and get to know about the history of the acreage, including Sir Sam’s Waterspa and the ski hill that once used to be wheat fields and apple orchards through interpretive signs along the four-kilometre hiking trail. Fall biking is available 7 days a week. You may also see wild animals like deer, foxes, and turkeys.
On the Thanksgiving weekend festival, set for October 11, 2025, you can also enjoy the chairlift ride.
There are over 23 km of trails suited for all abilities, traversing open meadow, hardwood forest, and ancient rock outcrops onsite.
Crown your adventure at the all-new Eagle View Observation Tower, unveiled on Thanksgiving Weekend 2024. Towering above Ontario’s Cottage Country, it delivers unmatched vistas of Eagle and Moose Lakes—an awe-inspiring backdrop, especially during fall’s fiery colours. Beyond breathtaking views, the Tower transforms into an unforgettable venue, hosting weddings, proposals, corporate events, or intimate celebrations.
